Armageddon: Day 1 - Connor & Alan

I'm typing these up exactly as they were written during the trip --- I wrote the review of the first day on Saturday night, and the review of the second day on the plane on the way home. So, when I talk about "tomorrow" during the Saturday review, that actually refers to yesterday now!!
NOTE: I'm going to update this as I remember extra things, so if you're very interested, it might be worth a revisit!

The Short Version: Today = awesome!
The Still Sort of Short Version: Today was the first day of Armageddon (the expo, not the end of the world). I saw Connor Trinneer (who is so much hotter in person) and Alan Tudyk (who is also far better looking in real life). They were both awesome, and the whole day was great! Flanigan tomorrow!
The Long Version: I'm in my hotel room now, writing this up whilst its still fresh in my mind.
I got up at about 5:45am, and travelled to Melbourne. The flight was fine until I arrived in Melbourne and found that my case had been broken on the flight --- it's one of those hard shell ones, and the shell completely cracked! I put in a report at baggage services, and they'll replace it for me, so it's not that big a deal, but still... my case is a pretty purple colour, and I love it!

My poor broken case
Anyway, I dropped (what was left of) my bag off at my hotel, and then headed to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, where the expo was held.
I was initially a little scared by it all. I've just never seen so much geeky stuff and so many geeky people in the same place before! I met up with
garneteve, and we had a wander around. We found a Stargate stand, which had the actual outfits worn by Vala (in Flesh and Blood) and Baal. We also had a funny conversation with a guy who was trying to work out where he was --- he was meant to be at the timber show next door!!

Vala's outfit
At 11am Alan and Connor started their autograph sessions, so we stood nearby and took photos. It felt a little stalkerish to be standing so close taking photos of them!! By the autograph line we bumped into
yokiem,
mcalex22,
derry667 and
kirei_seimei. We took many photos of
mcalex22 getting autographs, including photos with the famous K-9!

Connor looking pretty!

Alan looking dorky and happy!
I personally just couldn't get over how much more attractive Connor looks in real life. I should point out that I have never seen an episode of Star Trek Enterprise, so my only exposure to him has been his role as Michael the Wraith --- in real life he doesn't look nearly as green and evil!! In fact, in real life he's very attractive --- strong arms, nice shoulders, and he was wearing blue, which looks very good on him. He also had stubble --- again, a good look for him! So anyway, I went from really having no interest in seeing him to being very impressed! I think I might have to watch Star Trek Enterprise now!!

His blue top brings out the blue in his eyes nicely!

Alan seemed to always look happy or confused!
After looking around a bit more, we went to the main stage and saw Connor Trinneer. Did I mention that he was looking good? Throughout the whole thing, he was incredibly interesting, charming and funny. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who really appreciates his fans.
One of my favourite parts came from a question asked by
garneteve --- she asked if he'd do an impersonation of a Wraith. Connor stared at her for a while, then lifted his handed into a claw and said "rrrawrr". It was possibly one of those things that you just had to see to appreciate, but it was hilarious at the time! We kept doing it ourselves for the rest of the day!
He told another funny story about how he got into acting --- basically he auditioned for a play to try to pick up a girl! He didn't get the part, or the girl, but he did get the acting bug!!

Ooooh! And he quoted The Princess Bride! He was explaining that a book had been written in which 'Trip' (I think that's his name on Star Trek!?) wasn't actually dead, and so Connor joked that he was only "mostly dead". He then made a reference to the chocolate covered tablet (which'll make sense if you're familiar with The Princess Bride).
There was also a funny moment when some girls gave him a tube of vegemite. He was quite disturbed by the fact that we eat something with "concentrated yeast extract" in the ingredients!

He also made me laugh when explaining the heroic pose --- basically he discovered that a hand on the hip is heroic, but if the hand is at the back, it's not at all heroic!!
After Connor we saw Alan Tudyk --- he was incredibly funny, and again, seemed like a really great guy. We were actually given a real treat --- he showed us a video made by himself and Nathan Fillion (made for Alan's parents to play to their guests before watching the first episode of Firefly). Because it was just filmed unofficially they have not yet obtained permission from all of the extras, which means that it hasn't been shown in public before, and was only shown to us on the agreement that it wouldn't be filmed. It was very funny --- they seem like a really great bunch of people, and they obviously had an amazing time on set.
Alan mentioned that there is talk of a second Serenity movie. Apparently Joss has said that Alan will be in the new movie --- if it happens.
After the panel we went to the photo area, where Connor and Alan were both available. The lines were quite long, but eventually
kirei_seimei and
garneteve (who were having photos taken) made it to the front of the line. By this time they were actually meant to be back doing autographs, so Connor came out to see how long the photo line was. I saw him walking out, and he must have noticed me watching him, so then he walked up behind me, put his arm on my back at waist level, and asked me how I was going. I said I was great, and asked him, and he said he was good too! It was a nice little interaction! (particularly since he looks hot in person!)
After the photos we got some late lunch, and then headed back to see Alan again. His panel earlier had been full (and there were people outside who were unable to enter, so he agreed to a second panel at the end of the day), which is very sweet of him!

Whilst we were waiting for him, the organiser guy talked to us for a while. He was talking about how amazed they were by the turn out, and how excited they were that Joe had agree to come. The Hewlett had been planning on attending, but had to pull out when his baby was due so close to the date. Luckily for them (and us) Joe agreed to attend instead. They hope to run it again in the first week of November next year, and hopefully David will be able to make it! (I am so there!!
Anyway, once again, Alan was very funny, but at the moment, I can't for the life of me remember much more, so I'll probably add to this post later!!
I'm going to post day 2 of the con (the day with Joe) soon! :)
NOTE: I'm going to update this as I remember extra things, so if you're very interested, it might be worth a revisit!
