i've been ripping some of my CDs lately. some of them i haven't played for years (MP3s are so much easier). some of them have such strong memories attached to them. i remember when and where i got them and how it felt to listen to them for the first time. today i ripped the verve's urban hymns. i was watching tv with my sister when the video for bitter sweet symphony came up. i was transfixed. it was an unexpected success story here, so when i went through the stores in jerusalem, store by store, none of them had any copies left. except for one store, the guy had the cd playing when i walked in. i was desperate and i took the one he was using. then there is the lucky man CD single i got at the virgin mega store in san francisco. the first richard ashcroft solo CD i got at a used CDs store in camden, 2002. i have hundreds of CDs, i can't believe i remember this stuff. and deserter's songs by mercury rev, the perfect album to play for someone who's heart's been broken, soothing them so they can sleep. i remember giving it to my sister after she broke up with her BF. the sugarcubes' collection CD, tower records at the mall, my mom bought it for my birthday along with a pogues CD. i wonder if for each CD i have i can remember.
