I was tied between Firefly's "Out of Gas" and The West Wing's "Isaac and Ishmael". Because I love both episodes unreasonably, but for different reasons.
*grins in a evil way* Yeah, I know it's an evil question. I had been thinking about it myself, and couldn't think of an answer, so I thought my friendslist could help! :D
I have finally started watching Torchwood properly myself, and I'm loving it too! I watched the first few before seeing any of Dr Who, and although I liked it, I didn't love them. Now that I'm watching them properly (having seen Doctor Who) there is so much love! :)
I love Firefly's Out of Gas episode like it's nobody's business, but if I were introducing someone to the wonders of tv, I'd want to show a space cowboy series episode with all those old-fashioned elements and pretty outfits. In the future. With space ships and duels and snarky comments.
Out of Gas is an awesome episode! I just can't decide what would be the best thing to show to someone who is being introduced to TV for the first time. I don't think that there is any right answer to that one. Like you said though, something with snarky comments is always a good idea! :)
Whoa... it would have to be something slower paced, no action adventure, with a scene continuity someone with television experience might not need. It would be similar to showing someone the net for the first time. Where you or I can move about the net and take things in at a glance because of our experience, someone new to the net finds this infinitely confusing to watch. So... I think an 'oldie but goodie' would be appropriate. More talk, less camera jump, less calling on assumptions based on experience. But, what? *pulls hair* Good poll!
Yeah, you're right that it would be similar to showing someone the Internet for the first time.
I was thinking about this for a while, and I still can't make up my mind what I'd choose. It's a very hard choice, because there are a lot of different TV shows that are great for quite different reasons.
I think I'd probably end up making the person watch many many hours! :)
Evil question! EVIL! My brain automatically went to "Firefly", but I could not, for the life of me, pick an episode. Nope, I'd rather eat my stepfather's socks for dinner (Ewwwwww) so I went for my 2nd fav. T.V. series, duh, SGA, and I thought, "What episode had you laughing, smiling, clapping, jumping and just relishing the fact that you have clable?" DUET! Come on, seeing Rodney go crazy, kiss Carson (if I try hard enough, I can shift Carson to become John) and be his usual smarty self, is just the best thing, ever :)
I am going to be clevur. 'Stargate Atlantis', because I am currently into the series...and since we have one DVD player... lol you see my point. As per the episode, it would have to be 'The Storm', simply because it's more serious and more action packed than the others. It's also part one of a two parter, so that if the person liked part one, they are very likely to watch part two and be completely pulled into the series. ;)
*nods* The Storm is a great choice! It has plenty of action and suspense, and also has some of my favourite quotes from the show:
Sheppard: McKay will come up with something. McKay: I will try, but despite what you all may think, I am not Superman. Sheppard: Was anyone seriously thinking that? (everyone shakes their heads) Ford: No, sir. Zelenka: Never.
McKay: (explaining why Sheppard has to take the farthest grounding stations) I need to get done quickly so I can start working on the subroutines, and Elizabeth was complaining about her knee the other day so... Sheppard: Wait, whoa, w-wait a second. Are these things even close to a transporter? McKay: Uh, yes, Elizabeth's is. Sheppard: And mine? McKay: Uh, it's a brisk walk away. Sheppard: And by 'brisk' you mean... far? McKay: And, by 'walk' I mean 'run'.
as I could choose different shows and episodes according who the person is: taste in books, taste un music, age... Not the same try and charm a 60 years old, Beatles' lovers, who believe Asimov is greater than Shakespeare, or a 16 years old, who loves Nightwish and has only read Lovercraft because of Metallica... But is ok, you ask, I answer =D
Yeah, you're right -- the response would change depending on the person. But even if you were to specify a particular age, I still think it's a VERY hard question! I have no idea what I'd choose! :)
Yes, of course it's a hard question, but, as a professional pimper (what?), I'm always thinking about which episode of which show I need to send to someone to completely make her/him fall in love with it =D
