A poll on driving etiquette and six degrees of separation

This has arisen from a conversation with a friend, and I'm just interested in what other people do.

[Poll #837909]

I also have a challenge for you. I love the Six Degrees of Separation --- the idea is that any actor can be linked to any other actor in less than 6 moves (a 'move' is a movie or TV show that they starred in together). I believe that I can link David Hewlett to any other actor - so, name an actor, and I'll see if I can do it! Just in case I'm not making sense, here's an example of what I mean:

David Hewlett to Joe Flanigan
David Hewlett starred in "Where The Heart is" with Crispin Glover
Crispin Glover starred in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" with Juliette Lewis
Juliette Lewis starred in "The Other Sister" with Joe Flanigan

Easy. So, nominate someone for me!

So far I've linked David Hewlett to:
- Hugh Laurie
- Joss Whedon
- Aaron Sorkin
- George Clooney
- Clive Owen
- Derek Jacobi
- John Simm
- Ian McKellen
- Kevin Bacon
- Anthony Edwards
- Will Smith
- Hugh Grant
- Orson Welles
- Matthew Perry
- Kate Winslet
- George Lucus
- Alan Rickman
- Gary Oldman
- Gary Sinise
- Isabella Rossallini
- Keifer Sutherland
- Oliver Platt
- Kenneth Branagh
- Emma Thompson
- Helena Bonham Carter
- Rupert Everett
- Rupert Graves

(The explanations are in the comments. I'm happy to do more if anyone wants to nominate someone!)

My big writer boys: Joss Whedon (easy), Aaron Sorkin.

Also, just to see if you can do it: George Clooney.

WTF, hello wave???? sounds very... american. i remember how creeped out i was by strangers smiling to me and saying "how are you?" when coming up on the same californian trekking path from an opposite direction, which is basically the same thing as this hello wave.
6 degrees... clive own? derek jacobi? john simm?

Kevin Bacon! You can't play six degrees without Kevin Bacon!

Okay, I'm hoping this will be a real challenge.

Anthony Edwards to Will Smith.

Those are so fun. Can't help with the driving poll though cause I don't drive at all. I'm southern though so I'm pretty sure I'd do a thank you wave for just about anything.

Cause Friends is on Mathew Perry.

Re: the Poll - I spent some time in Texas where the "howdy nod" is also acceptable. Actually the "Howdy nod" is required for passing neighbors out on their property or anyone you know. It's sort of a curt little head bob, sometimes with a raised hand. Just, you know, a "Howdy". The nod is the same sort you would do if you were wearing a hat and tipping it to someone...except Texans are inventive and we do it without the hat sometimes.

Side note: I am now in FLA (Have been for 20+ years) but I executed an excellent "howdy nod" just the other day while driving out in a rural area and I passed a farmer out checking a section of fence. He nodded and without even thinking I did a perfect howdy nod in reply. Glad to know being polite is like riding a bicycle.

Ahem - on to Six Degrees! We used to play this all the time. And thus, here are the people that earned "bonus points" if you could use them in any link when my friends and I would play. Good luck!!

* Gary Oldman
* Gary Sinese
* Isabella Rossalini
* Keifer Sutherland
* Oliver Platt
* Kenneth Branuagh
* Emma Thompson
* Helena Bonham Carter
and lastly...the Ruperts - Either Rupert Everett or Rupert Graves.

(Can you tell we have the Brit actor love?)

how did you link him to joss whedon???

[identity profile] claudiasharon.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Doing the six degrees thing is fun! My roomie and I did that a while ago with random Stargate actors and connecting them to other people. What you gotta do is connect them to famous people who are either really old or no longer living (like someone from a black+white movie back in the day). Those are really challenging.
