More love for Canadian TV

I just finished watching Durham County, and all I have to say is wow. That was frackin' fantastic television. It was very dark, intense and so damn good. The opening credits were amazing, and Hugh Dillon's acting continues to impress me. (Also, he wears a hoodie with a jacket over the top, which is (in my opinion) one of the hottest things that a man can wear).

Is it coming back for a second season? I'm really looking forward to seeing where they take it.

Back to Hugh, on [community profile] the_ckr_files, Hard Core Logo was described as "a gateway drug to Hugh Dillon". That is so true. I hadn't even heard of him before HCL, but was very impressed with his performance, so I've since started tracking down his other appearances. In both Flashpoint and Durham County, he was fantastic. He has this amazing intensity in his acting; it's brilliant. I don't have words. Let me just say that if I was a 16-year-old girl, I'd be drawing love hearts around his name about now! :)

At the other end of the spectrum, I also watched the Bliss episode, "Six Days", staring Callum Keith Rennie. That was... less good. The story was terrible, but it did have a vital redeeming feature - Callum was naked!

We first met his character after about 5 minutes, but yet he had his clothes off by about the 10th minute, and was having sex by about the 15th minute. Go Callum! He was pretty adorable (particularly when dancing whilst drying the dishes) but man, that story was awfully predictable and formulaic. But Callum was naked, so it was certainly worth my 22 minutes.

(Also, I've changed my layout. I haven't finished playing around with it yet, but I think I like it so far.)

I hadn't watched Durham County but maybe I should. Looks like the very busy Hugh Dillon will be back for Season 2 (http://www.tv-eh.com/2008/10/21/durham-county-season-two/).

If I remember Bliss it was made as women's soft-core porn for Canadian cable so almost all the stories were pretty trite but lots of naked and half-naked hot Canadian guys. (I guess I watched it ;-)

I highly recommend Durham County. It's one of the most compelling shows I've seen in a while. The acting is great, the camera work is fabulous, and storyline is impressive. Plus, it has Hugh!

Hee, well Bliss sounds like something that I'd probably watch too. I'm shallow enough to like a show based on half-naked hot Canadian guys!

My computer screen just went green while I was typing this. That was weird :P

Hugh's keeping busy between Durham County and Flashpoint (which I'm still surprised most of the US viewers don't seem to realize is set in Canada). I loved Durham County. Hugh did an amazing job with the script and the plot was intriguing.

Bliss is softcore porn for women. I mainly got the DVDs from Netflix so I could see CKR's ep and Peter Wingfield's 2 eps. Predictable plot, but sexy men. Give and take ;)

That's very weird. Do you think that's somehow related to my new layout, or was it your computer or screen?

Huh! That's interesting that people don't realise that Flashpoint is set in Canada. I read that they tried to create it so it could be any city, but there are enough indicators (and the shots of Toronto's skyline should be a giveaway!)

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Durham County too. I think it's an unappreciated show.

And yes, it's certainly worth the predictable plot to see sexy men!

It's my work laptop...there's always been something weird about it, but I'm basically trying to use it until I break it.

As for Flashpoint, I think (the US audience at least) tends to default to thinking everything set in the US unless it's very blatantly obvious that it's not. I, on the other hand, want everything to be set in Canada unless it's blatantly obvious that it's not ;)

Durham County is awesome even if it does give me the wiggins. That's the point, I guess. And it's a beautifully-shot show, as well... all the creepier since that countryside is the kind I grew up with. I'll never look at mixedwood forest the same again! D:

Hugh said the second season is apparently going to be darker. O_o

And ahahha, Bliss. It's a terrible show. But yeah, nekkid Callum makes up for most anything.

Yeah, it is a beautifully shot show. And the believable acting makes it that much creepier too. I'm looking forward to seeing the next season.

*nods* I'd watch anything to see Callum nekkid. Not that I'm, you know, shallow or anything! :)

Cool! I'm uploading it now for you. It's only a 22 minute episode, so it should be done in about half an hour. :)

Sorry that took so long. Mediafire was being a bitch, so I uploaded to Megaupload. Here you go: approx 176mb (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JEIAC1KI)
