kaaatie: (CKR: Hard Core Logo - guitar)
I watched Hard Core Logo last night, and I can't get it out of my head. I've been thinking over it constantly. It was depressing, but the characters and the unanswered questions are fascinating. Everyone's intentions are so ambiguous, and every question just brings up more questions rather than answers. They're all clearly dysfunctional, but I can't decide how much deception and manipulation was going on. I think I need to see it again before I can decide anything. I haven't watched a movie that made me think this much in ages.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Callum Keith Rennie, how are you so awesome?

Eight things that made me happy today:
+ I got an award at work!!
+ It's Friday!
+ Only 2 more days of work for the year!
+ The weather is gorgeous (it's currently about 23 degrees Celsius, with a lovely blue sky, and only a few fluffy white clouds)
+ Did I mention that the weekend is almost here!?
+ We went to another Christmas lunch, and I had fun laughing at the stupid jokes in the crackers. I find that sort of "dad humour" more amusing than I probably should!!
+ I have the coolest, prettiest, smartest, most awesome dog in the world!
+ I received an email saying that they've shipping my Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog dvd! :)

By the way, everyone should do this meme. I think its therapeutic to have to focus on the things that make you happy.

Day 2 of the "things that make me happy" meme:

+ We had cake again today. White chocolate mud cake. It was awesome!
+ [profile] clight000 sent me 2 cds of music! Thanks so much hon!
+ Callum Keith Rennie is on my TV, wearing a hot leather jacket!!
+ Paul Gross is also on my TV, and he's wearing his pretty, pretty red mountie uniform!
+ My apricot tree has ripe apricots again. :)
+ I just had a nice dinner with my parents, brother and sister-in-law.
+ I received an email saying that they're sending me my signed copy of Gareth David-Lloyd's band's CD!
+ I've started filling up my new icon spots, and have some shiny new ones to play with!!
kaaatie: (Due South: Fraser and Ray)
I'm doing the 8 things that make me happy in 8 days meme. Here's day one:

+ I got petrol for only 89.7 cents a litre! Compared to the 1.70 a litre that it was a while ago, that's fricken awesome!!
+ We had cake for morning tea.
+ The stats that I'm doing at the moment are significant!! YAY!
+ I've been rewatching season 3 of Due South again. I absolutely love it. Oh Callum and Paul, how are you so awesome?
+ I'm re-reading Twilight again. It's my kind of crack!
+ [profile] fawkesielady_ed sent me 5 cds of music! (Thanks again hon!)
+ I've finally finished paying off my credit cards and can start saving for my next holiday!
+ I'm going to Sydney in only 38 days!

In other news, where has this year gone? I can't believe it's almost Christmas. I feel so unprepared. I haven't done much shopping yet, and I haven't even thought about Christmas cards. I swear that there must be some kind of crack in the space-time continuum that's making time go quicker for me.
kaaatie: (Twilight: Bella and Edward)
So, I'm still completely addicted to the Twilight Series (it's like I'm channelling a 15 year old girl or something!!)

I've now finished Twilight, New Moon and Midnight Sun, and I've read almost half of Eclipse.

I can't really explain the attraction --- in theory, it doesn't have much going for it. The writing isn't amazing, the story isn't particularly unique, and I'm usually incredibly frustrated by teenage angst and drama. But yet, I can't put them down! It's just... addictive! A strange, undeniable, irresistible addiction.

It's that perfect kind of mindless drivel. The books that I usually read require a lot of concentration, and since I read so much at work, when I get home, the last thing that I usually want to do is read something else that will require me to think. With Twilight, my mind can relax, and I can become completely engrossed in the book and forget about everything else. Like a drug!

More under the cut - nothing that I consider spoilery )

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

This thing is awesome - it's so quick and easy and very yum - it's a chocolate cake that you make in a mug in the microwave. Seriously! )

I saw Quatum of Hot Bod Solace a couple of nights ago. Daniel Craig is just... hot. I had to go searching for some nice pics of him, and here is the result.

Many, many photos of Hot Bod (and when I say many, I mean MANY!) )

Arggh! For some crazy reason, I decided that it would be cool to reorganise the insane number of magnets on my fridge. I severely underestimated the magnitude of this job. I've now taken most of the magnets off... They're sitting all over my kitchen bench and table, and I'm completely at as loss as to where to begin. My obsessive compulsive tendencies are causing me to try to find order amongst them. Should I organise them according to size? Or category? Travel ones together, then fandom ones together, then other ones together, or just some random organisation? Man, this is hard. Yep, I face the big problems in my life! Oh well, back to it, I guess. Those magnets aren't going to organise themselves!!

Comfort TV

kaaatie: (Buffy: Run)
I have a cold, and I'm feeling pretty crappy. To make myself feel better, I'm watching some comfort TV. Today, my medicine is Buffy. I know, I'm behind on a whole heap of shows, and I should try to catch up, but Buffy is like a nice security blanket when I'm feeling sick.

I'm starting at season 4, and I just watched The Freshman.

Xander: You up for a little reconnaissance?
Buffy: You mean where we all sculpt and paint and stuff?
Xander: No, that was the Renaissance.

Hee! It still makes me laugh!

My Gracey is also a little sick. The poor baby has a skin irritation, which was apparently caused by an allergy. The vet gave her an injection to get rid of the itch, and antibiotics to reduce the irritation. Hopefully she'll be better soon.
kaaatie: (DH: Armageddon 2008)
I've uploaded the videos that I took at the Armageddon Expo last weekend. There are three clips from David Hewlett's panel, and three from Kavan Smith's panel. All files are .avi.

Links behind the cut )

Also, a question: To those of you who've had your photo taken with stars, what have you done with them? Are they just sitting in a box somewhere, or in an album, or have you put them on the wall? I'm trying to decide whether to put mine up...

By the way, I have a few videos of Kavan Smith's panel and David Hewlett's panel. If there's a lot of interest, I can upload those for people.

I've been looking through my photos from the weekend, and I just HAD to post a couple tonight. These have a watermark on them at the moment, but I might post versions without the watermark in a future post.

See larger versions )

As I said, more photos and a proper review coming ... tomorrow. Now, sleep awaits!

(PS Check out David and I in the icon!!)
kaaatie: (SGA: McKay - Dancing)
I just got home from my trip to Melbourne for Armageddon. I have no idea where to start. The weekend was just perfect. David Hewlett was everything I hoped he'd be and more, Kavan Smith was gorgeous and fun, and Andee Frizzell and Gary Jones were great too.

I'm going to post a more blow by blow account of the last three days (and photos and maybe even videos), but I'm absolutely exhausted (and have to work tomorrow) so the review probably won't happen tonight.

Before starting to type up my summary insanely long review, I must add that the weekend was made so much more fun thanks to the great company. So, to my lovely Adelaide buddies who made the trek, to my wonderful LJ buddies who I saw again this year and to all of the other random people who I talked to over the weekend, thanks!

Is it too early to start the countdown for next year's Armageddon Expo?
kaaatie: (Pirates: Jack - lurks)
I feel like doing something fun and geeky, so anyone want to play Six Degrees of Separation? Please give me 2 actors, and I'll join them using common tv or movie appearances, in less than six moves.

For example, David Hewlett to Paul Gross )

Or ... Joe Flanigan to David Tennant )

So, bring it on! Enable my procrastination! Preferably actors that I should know... but I'm happy to also try any less common actors!
kaaatie: (SGA: Shep - Zoolander)
It's been a while since I posted icons. And when I say a while, I mean a LONG time. I've been working on a bunch of text ones lately, but then I watched 5x11 (The Lost Tribe), and had to make icons from THAT scene. You know, the scene near the beginning...

These aren't (in my opinion) spoilery, but I'll put them all behind a cut, just in case.

8 icons of THAT scene )

Now I'm going to go shoe shopping! :)
